MGCS 2012 will feature presentations from more than 40 of the Midwest’s top high-growth companies. Applications will be accepted through Tuesday, March 6. A four page (maximum) executive summary is needed to apply along with a $20 application fee.

Who should apply?
High-growth innovative companies from market sectors including but not limited to internet, software, healthcare, medical device, pharma, mobile and energy. Companies encouraged to apply include seed, early-stage, late-stage, and pre-IPO. Presenting companies will be selected by a committee of qualified venture capitalists. Companies will be selected based on market opportunity, competitive advantages, intellectual property, partnerships, business/technology platform, financial projections, exit strategies and the quality and experience of the management team.

Companies considered for presenting should meet the following criteria:
- Project $20M in revenue within five years.
- Seek funding in the range of $500K to $20M.
- Preferably have a Midwest connection.

Selected companies receive a reduced registration rate of $295, which is a $200 discount off regular admission.

MVCA members dined with Congressman Gary Peters (D-MI 9) August 8 at Grange Kitchen and Bar in downtown Ann Arbor.  Rep. Peters met beforehand with MVCA board members and later with at-large members to better understand both our state and national venture capital industry as he and other lawmakers move on to the subject of job creation and spurring investment in high-growth start-ups.

MVCA members helped Prof. David Brophy and the U-M Zell Lurie Institute celebrates the 30th anniversary of their annual event, the Michigan Growth Capital Symposium. Highlights included a retrospective of the conference’s three decades with remarks by founder Brophy as well as a lunchtime keynote by Silicon Valley VC and U-M alum Jay Hoag. Forty companies seeking funding presented at the conference, showcasing an array of promising ideas.

A large crowd of investors and industry supporters enjoyed cocktails and dinner at a private event at Vinology in connection with the annual MGCS conference.

The membership of the MVCA took the chance to educate Michigan legislators about the importance of venture capital to Michigan’s revitalization at its  legislative networking event Wednesday, April 12 in Lansing.    Members extolled the virtues of the Small Business Investment Tax Credit and 21^st Century Jobs Fund activities and asked how the MVCA and its members may help with the State’s company and job creating agenda.  Legislators were pleased to have the opportunity to get to know venture capital professionals in our state and better understand the work our community does.
