2023 MVCA Research Report

Our state's entrepreneurial economy hinges on our ability to provide capital to our high-growth, high-potential companies. Download the Report

As the Michigan Venture Capital Association (MVCA) reaches its 15-year anniversary, its members celebrate success as a catalyst for growth of the Michigan entrepreneurial and investment community.  To assure continued success, the MVCA board embarked on a year-long challenge to redefine MVCA’s strategy for the next five years.  From surveys, interviews and feedback sessions MVCA learned that its strategy needed to be sharpened and focus on providing more capital to Michigan’s most innovative entrepreneurs to transform breakthrough ideas into new companies and industries that drive Michigan’s job creation and economic growth.

Integral to MVCA’s effort to increase the availability of capital is Michigan’s angel community.

Michigan Angel Investors

As the statewide organization representing both individual angels and angel groups, MVCA will work to strengthen and expand the angel investor community and increase the availability of capital. The keys to success will be in:

  • Launching the Michigan Angel Education & Outreach Program
  • Passing pro-angel investor legislation

This year MVCA will launch the Michigan Angel Education & Outreach Program, which will expand programs and services currently offered by MVCA and specifically target them for the angel community.  MVCA plans to enhance programs and services to support Michigan’s angel community through events, research, education and marketing.

As part of that program, MVCA will secure funding to put in place an event, or series of events, to bring the angel community together and highlight its strengths so Michigan attracts more in-state and out-state angel investors.

Groundwork for an advocacy plan to institute an angel investment program is ready to be implemented.  It is designed to attract qualified investors in Michigan-based startups using a 20% credit against their personal income tax liability as a marketing tool to attract more angel investors.

In the meantime, angel investors and networks can enjoy the many other tailored benefits of MVCA membership:
