City Side Ventures is pleased to announce that the newly formed Birmingham Angels had their first group meeting in September 2019. The group, which is growing rapidly consists of successful business executives and high net worth individuals from Oakland County, has already established that they are “players” in the angel investing asset class in a very short period of time.

From September to December of 2019, they have conducted three monthly Investors Showcases which CitySide selected 15 fully vetted companies with 5 of them received funding and1 in the process of receiving funding, deploying $518K in early-stage capital. So far, we see an impressive 40% success ratio.

“I’m impressed with the number of high-quality investment opportunities being presented on a regular basis. The collaboration with other angels and sponsors and the availability of the presenting companies’ principals has been fantastic, as well; far better than I anticipated. The interaction and mentoring I’ve had with the City Side team has also been greatly appreciated and incredibly valuable since I am new to this arena of angel investing. It’s a very energizing environment that I plan to be more involved with going forward.” CJ – Member

Among the companies, the group is invested in Commando Lock, REZA, Cask & Kettle, Adlore Inc, FanLabel and Club Caddie and few others that are in the process.

“We are noticing a significant increase in the level of participation from the money that was sitting on the sideline for the longest time. Part of it we attributed to the variability and the growth of the local Michigan economy and no small part to the backroom structure and support we have created to accommodate our members and facilitate their participation. We are delighted to see the early-stage space growing and we need more people that are willing to be a part of this “Movement” to put Michigan on the map – David Weaver – Chief Investment Officer / CitySide Ventures.

We expect 2020 to be an even stronger funding year for our Birmingham Angels members with the group growing in size every month, and many new exciting companies coming out of the Michigan startup ecosystem.
