Nic Wetzler joined Augment Ventures as director in January 2018. He brings over 15 years of experience in venture capital, startups, early-stage technology, sustainability, and engineering. Nic’s primary responsibilities with Augment are deal sourcing and due diligence, and he will also work alongside the partner on fund development and portfolio management.
Prior to joining Augment Ventures, Nic was COO of Detroit Materials, an advanced high strength steel startup; managed the commercialization of Wayne State University’s $20 MM portfolio of physical science innovations; consulted with the State of Maryland, identifying $7.5B in economic opportunity in offshore wind; designed a waste to energy business with Green Garage Detroit; consulted with Toda Kogyo helping them win a $35M DOE Grant; interned at a bay area startup and an Ann Arbor venture capital firm; led the CleanTech Team for the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business’s seed stage investment fund where he earned his MBA with High Distinction. Nic began his career as an engineer at Ford Motor Company where he created and led a special project team to invent and implement two engine control software blocks as well as bring two new sensors to market.
Nic holds an M.B.A from the University of Michigan Stephen M. Ross School of Business, a Master of Environmental Science from the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan.
