This month, Michigan Venture Capital Association (MVCA) Executive Director Ara Topouzian traveled to Lansing to meet with key members of the Michigan Legislature and emphasize the critical role that venture capital plays in advancing the state’s innovation economy.

Topouzian held meetings with Representative Stephen Wooden, Representative Jason Morgan, Representative David Martin, and Bryce Webster, Legislative Aide to Representative Michael Webber, among others. These discussions focused on how venture capital is not only a financial engine but a strategic driver of entrepreneurship, high-growth job creation, and long-term economic development across Michigan.

“As Michigan continues to evolve as a hub for innovation and technology, it’s vital that we build strong partnerships with policymakers who understand the importance of capital access and entrepreneurial support,” said Topouzian. “We are grateful for the open dialogue and the continued support of legislators who recognize the value of both investors and the startups they fund.”

During the meetings, Topouzian underscored the need for consistent legislative backing to ensure Michigan remains competitive with peer states actively investing in their startup ecosystems. He also thanked the legislators for their efforts to support initiatives like the Michigan Innovation Fund, which aim to catalyze early-stage growth and foster a diverse, resilient economy.

MVCA’s visit to Lansing is part of the organization’s ongoing advocacy efforts to keep Michigan at the forefront of innovation by amplifying the voice of the venture community and ensuring policymakers have a clear understanding of the ecosystem’s challenges and opportunities.
