Last week, our MVCA board of directors gathered for our quarterly meeting on the west side of the state, in Zeeland, known for its blueberries, beaches, and business. There’s no doubt that the west side of the state is beautiful, but it’s quickly becoming a destination for work as well as play. West Michigan’s lakeshore was recognized by Forbes magazine as one of the best places to be for businesses and careers, which explains why the investor community is taking notice and supporting entrepreneurs in this area.
After hours of hard work on MVCA’s new five-year strategic plan (Momentum2021!!!), MVCA member Lakeshore Advantage hosted early stage investors from across Michigan for MVCA’s annual West Michigan Investors-Only Networking Reception. Our venue for the day was Lakeshore Advantage’s beautiful facility, The Colonial Clock Building. This building was a converted clock manufacturing building that is now home to fourteen businesses, of which Lakeshore Advantage is one. Fun Fact: Our board member Jody Vanderwel‘s Great Grandfather, Herman Miller, was once the General Manager of The Colonial Clock building.
Beyond the delicious food and great community building, most investors shared their growing excitement for this year’s Annual Awards Dinner on November 2, 2016, and how it’s timed to coordinate with Invest Detroit’s Accelerate Michigan Innovation Competition (AMIC), Michigan’s premier business plan competition showcasing some of the highest potential technology companies to investors and the broader community. This is the first year that the Annual Awards dinner will be hosted in Detroit and we’re also looking forward to helping attendees from both events participate in and celebrate the success of the entrepreneurial and investment community in Michigan!
Thank you to Lakeshore Advantage for hosting us and to everyone who attended our Investor-Only Networking Reception! We hope to see you all again soon at the 2016 Annual Awards Dinner!
